New Promise Scholars
Tamya Bruce graduated from Charlottesville High School in 2019 and is a freshman at ODU with a 3.06 GPA. Tamya strives for independence and success and looks forward to a career in business management after graduation.
Ceenan Gallihugh has a 3.1 GPA at Charlottesville High School. He works at ACAC Kids Zone, and has volunteered at both the Salvation Army and as a tutor. He enjoys learning about how things work and plans to study science or engineering in college.
Minuette Goin has a 3.83 GPA at Charlottesville High School. She will attend Mary Baldwin University with a goal of becoming a teacher. She sings in the CHS choir, is a cheerleader, and is a volunteer for multiple school and community groups.
Cameron Jackson plans to study nursing at Radford University. He has worked hard both in school and in his jobs. He plans to continue to rise to the challenge of assisting his family and working toward a successful future in college and beyond.
Dejua Lewis will be attending the Culinary Institute of American to pursue her passion for food entrepreneurship. she has her own successful business called Dejua’s Creationz, which offers freshly prepared smoothies and customizable dessert treats.
Anayesica Lopez has a GPA at CHS of 4.02. She is interested in pursuing a career in digital marketing after college. Teachers describe Anayesica as highly competent, positive, encouraging of others, kind, honest, reliable, and intelligent.
Edwin Lopez Sanchez has a GPA of 3.3 and will be the first person in his family to attend college. His goal is to become a nurse. His teachers describe him as a determined and motivated student with a strong work ethic.
July Paw graduated from Charlottesville High School in 2017. She is a junior at JMU with a 3.06 GPA, majoring in elementary education. She wants to be a teacher, and has plans to obtain a Master’s Degree after graduation.
Tiara Strait has a GPA of 3.94. She will be attending JMU, and aspires to be a financial analyst or CFO. She wants to start a business that teaches lower income families how to budget and save.
Abigail Tackett has a GPA of 3.84, and will graduate from CHS with an Associate’s Degree, as well. She will attend Longwood University, with a goal of becoming a psychologist. Her teachers describe her as goal-oriented, with a strong work ethic and a generous spirit.
